You STILL Have Time To Write YOUR Masterwork!

What’s the line? There’d be nothing worse than to die ‘with your music inside you.’

I believe each of us has something important to say. And, I know that many of you are still yearning to write THE BOOK. You know the one. The one that’s going to catapult you and your business to fame! ;-)

But, if you’re like me you’ve picked at it; written a bit; and then lost focus or enthusiasm.

    BUT, there’s a way out!

My friend, colleague, and Blogging Mentor Andy Wibbels is once again offering his hands-on, hold-your-feet-to-the-fire, get the damn book written in 45 days!

YES, it’s time for Andy’s Write a Book in 45 Days!

    Impossible you say? Not true.

Dr. Susan Reid, who attended Andy’s seminar last spring, cranked out a draft of her book “Discovering Your Inner Samurai”, which was published last year, received National Finalist Best Book awards, and lead to her becoming a regular columnist at the American Express Forum

I’m joining Andy so he and the other participants can keep my feet to the fire and help me write a sloppy first draft of my memoir Beyond the Pain: My Journey from Trauma to Recovery.

Come on! It won’t hurt to just check out Andy’s workshop!

    Teaser Excerpt From My Novel

    = = Here it is R Rated!! = =

Rich stared at the screaming pink vibrator in his hand.

Huge was not quite the right word for it. Massive, perhaps. Definitely, humungous.
He wondered why the fuck anyone would own, yet alone use something so grossly huge.

What was worse was the fact that it belonged to the dead girl. Miranda, he thought, that was her name. He knew her as []. . .

    Dewey The Library Cat

This story about Dewey the Library cat from Writer's Write, is great from several perspectives.

The idea of a librarian getting a $ 1.2 million dollar book deal. And, the great link to the story of Dewey the cat, named after the book coding system. I love the bit about his Job Description.

    Time's Best 100 Books

Time magazine just announced the Best 100 English language books written since 1923.

I'm happy to report that I have read TEN, yep 10, of them!

Crud! I never even heard of some of them.

Check it out for the book reviews too.

Of the 10 I have read, my favourite is.... To Kill A Mockingbird!

I read it in Grade 10, I think. Great book. Wonderful movie.

    Why I Didn't Say Anything

I was standing in the checkout line at the library when I spotted Sheldon Kennedy's expose of childhood abuse, "Why I Didn't Say Anything: The Sheldon Kennedy Story".

For those who aren't hockey fans or those who were living in their cellars the fly leaf of this chilling memoir sets the stage for Sheldon's story:

"In 1996, Sheldon Kennedy rocked the insular world of Canadian Hockey by announcing that his former minor-league coach, Graham James -- the Hockey News 1989 Man of the Year had sexually abused him more than 300 times"

The story unfolds from Sheldon's life on the farm, where he learned to skate and play hockey. To his fateful meeting with Graham James. And, the subsequent abuse he suffered at the hands (mouth and prick) of this charismatic pedophile.

Like many abuse victims Sheldon took on the shame and the blame for the abuse. Shame lead to alcholol and drug abuse... even while his junior hockey team (coached by James) won a world championship.

Eventually, James went on to play successfully, or at least on the surface, in the NHL. All the while struggling with his demons.

Finally, the internal pressure became too much and Sheldon told his team mates -- and the police. This lead to an investigation and charges against James. But, James decided to plead guilty. Thereby avoiding the risk of a trial.

Sheldon and his demons were restless. So, he set up a Foundation and decided to inline skate across Canada to raise funds. He succeed after 5 months, quite literally, on the road.

But, success was fleeting and his demons took over. Soon cocaine and booze drove him to bottom. Finally, he got the help he needed from the NHLPA substance abuse program.

Today, Sheldon lives and works in Calgary, Alberta as youth counsellor.

If you care about children, especially children who have been abused, this book is a must read.

Contact Sheldon at his web site.
