My daughter gave us a copy of the deluxe edition of Legends of the Fall last week.
Hadn't watched it since 1995 but remembered the story was compelling and the cinematography even more! Why not. The movie was filmed in my own Province of Alberta, just 30 minutes from where I live. And, features stunning shots of the actors and the Canadian Rockies.
I love this line from the novella, written by Jim Harrison, upon which the movie was based: "Some people hear their own inner voices with great clearness and live by what they hear. Such people become crazy. Or they become legends."
The legend of the story is of course no other than Brad Pitt (Tristan Ludlow). This movie catapulted him to star status, and eventually into the arms of Angelina Jolie (Mrs. Smith), and current fame as the male half of Brangelina.
If you want angst, pain, joy, and a great view of Brad's bum -- watch this movie.
I had forgotten just how gut wrenching the movie is. A wonderful story of the pain that resides in a family filled with love... and dysfunction.
See the dynamics between the Hero, the Scapegoat, and the Lost Child, played out under the controlling force of Anthony Hopkins (Colonel Ludlow).
Enjoy! Two thumbs up!!
